Let me share some the of joys and adventures of my trip to Vietnam & Cambodia. Ho Chi Minh city is a vibrant colourful city with roof top bars music and dancing. Don't leave without trying a "Miss Saigon" cocktail. Scooters galore changing lanes on instinct, taking each others place, they ride so close raincoats touch but they never seem to have an accident.
Angkor Wat in Siem Reap is one of the wonders of the ancient world. Some believed it to be the centre of the universe. I was blown away by the size of the temples and the area that they cover. It's a 4am photographers delight to watch the sun rise over Angkor Wat. Ta Prohm of Indiana Jones Tomb Raiders fame made a lasting impression.
See the historial Central Post Office, War Remants Museum and Cu Chi Tunnels. Drink Vietnamese coffee served over ice. The highlight was my cooking class where I shopped at a local market ordered produce then cooked Vietnamese spring rolls, crispy pancakes and stewed basa fish in a clay pot. Delicious.
Pandaw River Cruises
My Pandaw River Cruise was a wonderful way to experience the Mekong River, only having to unpack once for the week.
In 7 days I travelled 1065.4 km from Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap. Culinary delights on board were a mix of both Asian and Western cuisine. Twice daily excursions or lectures were included. What a rewarding experience to see the way of life on the Mekong, meet local people who are so full of life.
My highlights were a city tour of Phnom Penh by cyclo (tuk tuk) to the Royal Palace. A visit to Angkorban Village was a chance to see local school children with beautiful smiling faces eager to learn English. This cruise was lifechanging and a great way to experience all that the Mekong River has to offer.
